Help! there is a gun in my house!

Last week I received a call from a woman asking if I taught firearm safety. I said "yes" and explained the class outline. The woman, Laurie, told me that their son had served in the Marines, came home for a while and since moved out of state, leaving his 9mm gun behind. Laurie explained that she is very frightened by guns and to make matters worse, the gun was loaded! CM (the husband) has been retired for several years and had decided that it would be a good idea for the both of them to take a firearms training course. I explained that my course focuses on responsible gun ownership and safe gun practices. The families who take my course learn about different types of firearms, how to safely store and handle guns, and how to use them for self-defense. I assured Laurie that I would be able to help her and her husband feel more comfortable around firearms.

We scheduled a private lesson ending with time on the range for the following weekend.  They weren't kidding about having a fear of guns.  When they arrived for the class, they asked if I would go to the car and take the gun.  I was thinking the gun must not be in a case or a holster.  They opened the trunk and I found the gun inside a case AND in a holster.

We are now done with the class and they both have a very good understanding of clearing a pistol, proper grip and sight alignment.

These two people are 68 and 65 years old and WOW! They blew me away (no pun intended).

To receive a certificate they had to qualify on the range, and they both qualified on the first round!

What  a way to end a class!  Laurie was excited about coming back to the range and I think they just might replace golf for target practice (maybe).
